The Abramovic Method practiced by Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is in full promotion mode for her new Single "Applause" and her upcoming Album "ARTPOP" (unfotunately the leaked song "Burqa" is deleted). This time it seams she is focussing more on ART than POP, at least for the image (I guess the music still goes into the electropop direction). But you can say whatever you want about Gaga but if there's one thing I've learned by now it's that she doesn't do anything halfway - from wearing McQueen Armadillo footwear to performing on stage until she almost breaks her hip (literally). She is always and in every state of her live - on and off stage - 100% dedicated to her art. And that makes it also so authentic which I can't say about all the other so called pop princesses out there (I just say Britney Bitch).
Lately Gaga teamed up with the legendary performance artist Marina Abramović. They met the first time 2010 at Arbamović's MoMa show "The Artist Is Present" which gained the show a lot of hype and attention after Gagas visit. Just recently the two of them joined the Watermill Center in the Hamptons.
As said, Lady Gaga always goes the full way. So it is no surprise that she studies with Marina last week. Abramović - known for her endurance-testing works - put Gaga through the her series of excersices for more than 20 hours of training in the rigorous Abramović Method. The excersices are designed to heighten participants' awareness of their physical and mental experience in the present moment (see the video above).
"The idea was that artists, even blindfolded, have to have vision like a blind man," Abramović said. "To feel with their entire body ... She was in the fields and then the forest and by her pure intuition she had to find her way back home ... During this exercise, completely of her own initiative, she took off her clothes. She just wanted to be in nature and to feel the elements. …I was worried about Gaga getting Lyme disease from the ticks in the area. At the same time, though, I was absolutely blown away by how "fearless" and dedicated she was."
The newly found Marina Abramović Institute (MAI) will be the first space dedicated to practicing the Abramović Method, which prepares participants to both perform and observe long durational work. It is now on Kickstarter to get funding for the work. You can also back the project with a donation and become a part of the MAI, just like Lady Gaga.

I'm still curious what Lady Gaga will bring us in the future! She is always full of surprises and her new dedication to art and especially performance art is something I haven't seen for a loooong time in the pop industry.

Go Gaga Go.
