The African diary # 3: Experiences on the marketplace

Shopping is a bit different on Zanzibar. If you want some food you need to go to the local market where you can buy everything from fresh fruits, fish and meat to all kinds of household goods and clothes. But please remember the first price is not the final price! Especially as a tourist you have to pay more than local residents, which is fine thinking about the gap between our income and an African income. Nevertheless you always need to trade and to give your very best to not pay way too much.
Being on a market is very intense. There are a lot of different fragrances from spices and fish, there is a lot of babble of voices and just the burst of colors everywhere is pretty amazing. But to really get an idea how the local real life looks like, you need to visit a market like this and just try to take in all those experiences.
